Vaccine Study Facts

Fighting FAQs with FACTS.

We’re here to share any information that can help you confidently make the right choice when it comes to the COVID-19 vaccine studies.

Who can participate?

You may be eligible to take part if you:

  • are 18 years of age or older
  • have not tested positive for COVID-19
  • have a job or other situation that could expose you to COVID-19
  • How long are vaccine studies, and how much time will I have to commit?

Your time commitment will vary depending on the specific study you choose. On average, the studies require 6-8 visits to the research sites over two years. Most of the visits will take place in the first year, with one or two visits in the second year.

The visits are typically about 90-120 minutes for the two vaccine visits and follow up visits are 30-45 minutes.

Where can I go for appointments?

The University of Rochester has two research locations:

Strong Memorial Hospital (UR Medical Center)
    601 Elmwood Ave.
    Rochester, NY 14642

    OR

    Center for Vaccine Research
    2180 S. Clinton Ave, Suite D
    Rochester, NY 14618

There is also the option to be seen at Rochester Regional Health.

Will I be paid for my participation?

Yes, people who join a study are compensated for their time and travel. The details about compensation will be explained when a person enrolls and goes through the informed consent with a member of our clinical research team.

What are the health risks of participating in a Phase 3 trial?

A Phase 3 vaccine study has already gone through several studies of safety. The study vaccine administered has been found to be safe in Phase 1 and 2 studies. Possible risks related to the specific vaccine are explained in detail with you when you enroll and consent to participate. This involves a written consent form that describes possible side effects. If a person chooses to enroll, the research team answers all questions.

Before you enroll, we will ensure that you understand all possible risks. We will be with you every step of the way to answer your questions.
